Rafeld-Rogers Field

Our athletic programs have been a source of great pride and a vital part of Mount Union for years. Generations of Mount Union alumni have benefited from the laboratory for leadership provided by participation in Purple Raider athletics. Their success as leaders in business, education, and the professions attests to the value of Mount Union’s approach to athletics – one that emphasizes broad student participation while actively striving for competitive excellence.

A number of athletic projects are part of the Inspiring Minds, Transforming Lives campaign, including much-needed upgrades to the baseball facility located at the 23rd Street Complex. Proposed renovations to the facility, which will be named Rafeld-Rogers Field after 30-year coach Jack 'Skip' Rafeld and former player and Alliance native Mike Rogers, will elevate the quality of the baseball field to match the excellence of facilities that support other athletic teams on campus.

The first step in the renovation included the installation of a donor funded, artificial turf infield at its baseball field. The surface will be done AstroTurf in its Diamond series turf which has been installed at a variety of college fields including Ohio State, Michigan and Vanderbilt. The infield is the first of a multi-phase project that eventually hopes to bring a new home dugout, press box and seating area, a remodeled entrance to the complex and a turf outfield.
