Data Science Students Take Home Top Spots at Regional Research Showcase

October 29, 2026

GAMBIER, Ohio — Highlighting their work done through the University of Mount Union’s Center for Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, students Emily Owens ’27 and Vince Neyhart ’27 took home first and second place, respectively, at the Consortium for Computing Sciences in Colleges (CCSC) Midwest Regional Meeting’s Student Poster Showcase held at Kenyon College.

Owens, a triple major with a concentration in quantum computing from Uniontown, Ohio, presented her work on “ClarifAI: An Adaptive Approach to Generative AI in Higher Education.” The conference gave her the opportunity to share her research with educators interested in using the platform in their classrooms.

“Between the hackathon, student showcase, panels and keynotes, there was always something interesting happening,” Owens said about her experience. “I think that's what makes conferences like CCSC Midwest so valuable for students. You get a chance to step outside the classroom, see what other people are working on, and realize just how many directions your interests and skills can take you.”

Neyhart, a computer science major from Wooster, Ohio, highlighted his project, “IntervU: Artificial Intelligence Enhanced Interview Preparation.”

“I had a great time at CCSC Midwest. I was incredibly excited to show my project to others in the field, and I gained some valuable insight from the experience,” Neyhart said. “Although I was a little nervous at first, Dr. [Julie] Butler prepared me well with all our review, and I ended up doing very well presenting my project.”

Owens and Neyhart are two of several students achieving success through participation in the CDSAI. Learn more by visiting the Center for Data Science and Artificial Intelligence page.
